The world's last turntable ferry has a really clever design

In Glenelg, on the west coast of Scotland, there's the Skye Ferry: the last turntable ferry in the world. And the reason for that turntable is a lot more clever than I initially thought.

Thanks to all the team at the Skye Ferry! skyeferry.co.uk

  • Very nice... Good to hear a community clubbing together to preserve their history, culture and shortcut... It's more often than not the other way round now in rural areas - more likely to gang up to shut down a traditional rural activity.

    • @eioshen boboi .. Scotland s far too reliant on money from England, oil and whisky. If it leaves the UK I ery much doubt the EU would want them... Their economy is worse than many Eastern European ex-commy nations not let into the Union on economic grounds.. There are corporate conglomerates with more money than Scotland.. It is a weak, parasitic pseudo-nation in many ways.....!

  • Here, in my part of Australia, we have a ramp on each ilsand, out in the water are pylons. The barge comes into the land, between the pylons and the pylons sort of hold it in place. That way the current is moot when the barge is between the pylons.

  • In the age of mobile phones with cameras everywhere we see more and more videos of interesting things or events that are done by amateurs. Therefore there's no cuts, no schematics, no animations, no interview bits etc... made or put in. So now when see a professional video with all those things added, I realize how much those disturb my watching experience.

Africa & South America are certainly places where I have seen videos of places that could benefit from this approach involving minimal infrastructure cost and maintenance ... Fascinating story. Thanks.

No pack of engineers is sent to solve overconsumption or waste or overshoot of the industrial revolution and overshoot of control of everything by capital.
